PSD Files Appear Empty or Layers Are Missing?

If you open a PSD file and notice that some elements aren’t visible, don’t worry. Some layer groups may be hidden by default to help keep the files more manageable.

You can easily turn them back on in Photoshop.

How to Show Hidden Layers

  1. Open the PSD file in Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Go to Window → Layers, or press F7 to open the Layers panel.
  3. Look through the layer groups for any that are hidden.
  4. Click the eye icon next to a hidden group to make its contents visible.
  5. Repeat this for any other groups you want to display.

Once you’ve enabled the relevant groups, the hidden layers and design elements should appear on your canvas.

If a particular element is still missing, check whether its individual layer is also hidden.
